What are the Best Months for Whale Watching in South Africa?

If whale watching is high on your agenda, then time your holiday to coincide with the country’s whale season. This typically runs from June to November, with Hermanus being at the centre of the migratory southern right whale action.

You can head out into Walker Bay on a boat trip to see these majestic marine mammals up close, or simply take a walk along the cliffs and watch the whales frolicking right before your eyes. The peak calving period for southern right whales is in July and August. Humpbacks can also be spotted between May and December as they swim up the coast towards KwaZulu Natal and beyond.
