Vilanculos Beach

Vilanculos is a coastal town in the Inhambane province of Mozambique. The area is characterised by beautiful white sandy beaches and clear, tropical Indian Ocean waters. The shallow bay is ideal for those looking to play in the warm sea or enjoy a variety of water-based activities. Beyond the bay is the beautiful Bazaruto Archipelago, and Vilanculos is the nearest point of departure from the mainland.

About Vilanculos Beach

The town of Vilanculos is a hive of activity with bars, restaurants and fruit or craft markets. It is famed for delicious fresh seafood and ice-cold local beers – a combination not to be missed on a tailor-made holiday in Vilanculos.

Things to Do in Vilanculos

There is a wide variety of activities in Vilanculos, from boat cruises on traditional dhows to horse riding on the beautiful beaches. The water in the bay has a visibility of 40m and so snorkelling and diving trips in the area are often very rewarding with turtles, dolphins, whales and sharks all commonly sighted. If you’re lucky you may also catch a glimpse of the rare dugong.

The international airport just outside Vilanculos makes access to Mozambique’s pristine beaches very easy, and Mozambique is a viable option for a beach extension to safaris in a number of other countries such as South Africa.
