SPEAK TO US
Maputo is the capital of Mozambique and is said to be one of Africa’s most beautiful cities, complete with a fascinating history and vibrant music scene. The city is a great place to spend a few days taking in the sights, atmosphere and exceptional food, and a stopover in Maputo can easily be added to most Mozambique itineraries.
The historical Portuguese colonial influence can be seen in much of the city’s Mediterranean-style architecture and colourful lined avenues of jacaranda and flame trees. To the north and east of the port is the old town and heart of the city known as Baixa. This is the commercial and cultural centre and one of the best places to visit in Maputo with a beautiful neoclassical city hall and dome-topped railway station. There is a vibrant and buzzing nightlife atmosphere in Baixa’s bars and restaurants which is a real treat for music lovers and especially those with a passion for jazz.
