OUR HIGHLIGHTS OF KENYA ITINERARY IS A COMBINATION OF KENYA'S MOST EXCITING SAFARI DESTINATIONS. THE TRIP HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO SHOWCASE SOME OF THE COUNTRY'S SENSATIONAL WILDLIFE IN PRISTINE NATURAL HABITATS AWAY FROM CROWDS OF TOURISTS. THERE IS PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITY TO FILL YOUR DAYS WITH EXCITING ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES AND SOME TRULY BEAUTIFUL SETTINGS TO ENJOY SOME WELL-EARNED REST AND RECUPERATION POST-RACE
Following a good night's rest having completed the For Rangers Ultra-Marathon, you will depart Sweetwaters Camp and transfer by road with a private car and driver to Sosian Lodge (journey time approx. 2hr 30mins). Much of the drive to Sosian is through vast expanses of Laikipia's rugged wilderness with wildlife to see en route. On arrival, you will check into the lodge. The afternoon is yours to spend at leisure. You may wish to take the opportunity to relax by the lodge's pool or enjoy a game drive in search of the area's fantastic wildlife - there is a selection of activities for you to enjoy during your visit.
A full day at leisure for you to enjoy as you please with a list of activities included in your stay.
Our suggestion: A morning wake-up call with tea/ coffee followed by a game drive in search of big cats and other wildlife. At the conclusion of your game drive meet the lodge's staff in the shade of an acacia tree on the bank of the river for cooked breakfasts and refreshing drinks. Take a short walk to the nearby waterfall and swim in the freshwater. Return to the lodge and take a good book to the swimming pool and lounge area for some downtime and lunch. In the late afternoon take a game drive in search of more of Sosian's wildlife (if your legs are up to it walking and horse safaris are also available). Finish your drive at a beautiful scenic spot for a refreshing sundowner before dinner at the lodge or privately out in the bush. Other activities and day plans are available.
There will be time this morning for breakfast before taking a game drive to the nearby Loisaba airstrip where you will meet your flight to the famous Masai Mara (journey time approx. 1hr 50mins). Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and proceed on a game drive back to camp through the Mara North Conservancy. The afternoon is yours to spend at leisure with a list of activities available from the lodge to enjoy.
DAY 4 & 5
The Masai Mara is famous for big cats and offers some of the best game viewing action in East Africa. The Mara North Conservancy in which Offbeat Mara is located is a spectacularly beautiful area with abundant wildlife. Unlike the neighboring reserve, vehicle numbers at sightings on the conservancy are limited and the intimacy of wildlife encounters is far greater as a result. During September, the neighboring reserve plays host to the vast herds of the annual wildebeest migration. Labeled 'the greatest show on earth' the migration is a spectacle that shouldn't be missed by anyone visiting the Masai Mara. (Entrance to the reserve paid locally).
Our suggestion: Spend your time in the Mara enjoying the exclusivity of the Mara North Conservancy and the activities of Offbeat Mara. If witnessing the grazing herds of the migration is of interest, spend a day adventuring in the reserve before stopping at a scenic spot for a sundowner on your way back to camp.
After breakfast, a morning game drive as you transfer to the Mara North airstrip for your flight to Nairobi Wilson airport (Approx. journey time 1hr - direct). In Nairobi, you will be met by a driver and transferred to the international airport. For later international flights a day-room at a hotel or afternoon visit to a restaurant can be arranged (not included).
Would you like to include some beach rest and relaxation? See our suggested itinerary extensions here.
DAY 3,4 & 5
Offbeat Mara is a wonderful traditional safari camp in one of the Masai Mara’s most exciting wildlife conservancies, Mara North. There is sensational wildlife viewing to be enjoyed here without the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist crowds found in the nearby reserve. Limited numbers of vehicles at sightings mean that wildlife encounters are intimate and exciting, allowing for greater access and closer proximity to the abundant game found in the area.
Although never certain, there is a good chance to see lion, leopard, and cheetah among other species in a truly beautiful and pristine part of Kenya. The national reserve is easy to access for those who wish to visit the herds of the Great Migration before returning to the sanctity of the Mara North Conservancy.
